World Wide Knit in Public Day 2026 – Ten Years of Community, Creativity, and Shared Moments

On June 13, we once again took our knitting outdoors and transformed the space in front of Pleta.bg in Kapana into a place filled with conversations, creativity, new friendships, and inspiration. For the tenth consecutive year, we celebrated World Wide Knit in Public Day – a special occasion that reminds us how meaningful it is to create with our hands and share that experience with others.

In our fast-paced world, it can be difficult to find time to simply sit down, connect, and enjoy each other's company. Knitting has a unique ability to bring people together naturally. Whether you are holding knitting needles or a crochet hook for the very first time, or you have completed countless handmade projects over the years, conversations start easily, smiles appear effortlessly, and shared interests create lasting connections.

That is exactly what happened this year.

When Knitting Comes Out into the Open

The area in front of our shop was filled with yarn, colors, creativity, and good energy. Passersby stopped out of curiosity, asked questions, and discovered a world that often remains hidden behind the comfort of our homes. For us, this has always been one of the most beautiful aspects of the day – the opportunity to show that knitting is alive, modern, creative, and welcoming.

Throughout the day, people with different levels of experience and different stories gathered around the tables. Some knitted quietly and peacefully, others exchanged ideas for future projects, while many took the opportunity to learn new techniques and ask questions. Between rows of stitches, conversations flowed naturally, laughter was shared, and new friendships were formed.

More Than a Hobby

We often talk about knitting as a creative craft, but it is so much more than that.

For many people, spending time with yarn in their hands is a way to slow down, relax, and step away from the pressures of everyday life. The rhythmic repetition of stitches creates a sense of calm, while focusing on a project allows the mind to rest and recharge.

During this year's gathering, we witnessed this effect once again. People who had never met before were chatting as if they had known each other for years. Experienced knitters and crocheters gladly shared their knowledge with beginners. Ideas, techniques, and inspiration were exchanged freely. It is this atmosphere that makes World Wide Knit in Public Day so special to us.

Creativity with a Purpose

This year, our celebration carried an additional meaning.

Participants spent the day crocheting bra cup bases, while all proceeds generated during the event were donated to charity. This gave every stitch an even deeper purpose and reminded us that handmade crafts can be both beautiful and impactful.

We believe that when people come together around a shared cause and contribute their time, skills, and hearts, the result becomes something much greater than the sum of individual efforts. It becomes a community.

Ten Years Later

When we first joined World Wide Knit in Public Day ten years ago, we could hardly imagine how many wonderful people we would meet along the way. Over the years, the event has become a tradition that we eagerly look forward to every summer.

Each edition is different. The projects change, the yarns change, the conversations change, and the people change. Yet one thing always remains the same: the feeling of belonging to a creative and supportive community united by a love for handmade knitting and crochet.

This year was no exception.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us, brought their enthusiasm, shared their projects, and contributed their time. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, learn something new, or simply enjoy the atmosphere.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who continues to prove that knitting has the power to connect people, regardless of age, experience, or background.

Until next year's World Wide Knit in Public Day!

And until then, we will keep creating, learning new techniques, sharing ideas, and growing the Pleta.bg community—one stitch at a time.
