Knitting Under the Open Sky: The Day We Shared Yarn, Smiles, and Inspiration
At first glance – just an ordinary Saturday. But for all of us who gathered in front of the Pleta.bg shop in Kapana, armed with hooks, it was more than just a day – it was a celebration of creativity, connection, and craftsmanship. The occasion? International Knitting in Public Day – #InternationalKnittingInPublicDay.
Under the blue sky and surrounded by the scent of aromatic coffee and homemade sweets, people of all ages and skill levels gathered. There were young and old, boys and girls, beginners and seasoned knitters. Some worked on bags, others on small coasters or belts – but all with a shared goal: to knit and share the experience.
One particularly inspiring sight was a 15-year-old boy, knitting not only with great dedication but at a speed that amazed everyone – his hands never stopped! Beside him, a few 10-year-old girls, already confident with the hook, created their little pieces with ease and enthusiasm. It was clear that this generation already carries the thread of handmade crafts within them.
Our hearts were warmed by the fact that some participants had come especially from Sofia – just to be part of the day. Traveling to share a skill and a sense of community is true proof of the power of knitting to connect people.
There was something magical about watching strangers sit next to each other, talk, share experiences, and learn from one another. Children curiously observed the hands of the adults, and some even picked up a hook for the first time. We laughed, discussed patterns, tried different techniques, and most of all – enjoyed the company and the creative energy.
This day reminded us that knitting is not just a craft, but a form of connection – with ourselves, with others, and with the rhythm of time. We thank everyone who came and brought with them smiles, enthusiasm, and the desire to create.
We hope this becomes an annual tradition – because nothing warms the heart quite like yarn, a hook, and the company of like-minded souls under the open sky.
