Shawl FRENCH KISS
GENERAL INFORMATION:
This is a large shawl, knitted in one piece and using only 1 yarn cake by the beautiful Stenliyarn Merino Cake (a luxury merino blend). The main body implements the beautiful soft feel of the yarn in the highly textured stitch pattern, empowering the beautiful color flow of the yarn, while the diagonal lace pattern highlights the irregular triangular shape.
The shawl is knitted flat, in one piece, first in the textured stitch pattern, simultaneously increasing the number of stitches only at one of the sides of the piece. When the maximum width is achieved the shorter side of the triangle is formed through using short rows while knitting the diagonal lace stitch pattern.
The pattern features written instructions and is suitable for intermediate knitters or adventurous beginners.
SIZE:
One size; approx. final dimensions after blocking (for recommended yarn): 165 cm (65”)/ 175 cm (68.9”) / 105 cm (41.3”)

1 x Stenliyarn Merino Cake (300 gr) – color “French Kiss” (509).
Needles:
Circular needles (in order to accommodate the large number of stitches) - size 4 mm.
Circular needles (in order to accommodate the large number of stitches) - size 3 mm
Other:
darning needle, scissors.
GAUGE:
28 st per 10 cm / 4 in. Gauge is not substantial for this design in the recommended yarn. Depending on tension the dimensions and drapery of the finished piece may vary.

Edge – same on RS and WS:
With your left needle lift the bar between the stitches starting from the front (leading leg of the stitch is located in the front) and knit it as usual (this will create a tiny hole in the fabric). On the next row (WS) purl that stitch.
Textured stitch pattern repeat (over 3 st):
Row 1 (RS): YO, sl1 with yarn to the back, p2, pass the YO over the last 3 stitches;
Row 2 (WS): p3;
Row 3 (RS): Place 1 stitch on a cable needle and hold it to the font, k2, k1 tbl from cable needle;
Row 4 (WS): p3.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Setup row (RS): cast on 5 st with any suitable cast on method with 4 mm circular needles, turn
Setup row (WS): sl1 wyf, k2, sl1 wyf, k1 (5 st)
Row 1 (RS): sl1 wyf, k1, (k1, yo, k1) in the next stitch (making 3 out of 1 stitch), sl1 wyf, k1 (7 st)
Row 2 (WS): sl1 wyf, k2, p1, k1, sl1 wyf, k1 (7 st)
Row 3 (RS): sl1 wyf, k2, (k1, yo, k1) in the next stitch (making 3 out of 1 stitch), M1wH (see instructions above), k1, sl1 wyf, k1 (10 st)
Row 4 (WS): sl1 wyf, k2, p4, k1, sl1 wyf, k1 (10 st)
Now start working the Textured Stitch Pattern as follows (read the whole paragraph before continuing):
Diagonal Lace Stitch Pattern
Row 1 (RS): Edge (over 3 st), *k1, k2tog, YO, k2tog, YO, k1*, repeat stitches between ** until 6 st are left before end of the row, turn (working your preferable short row technique);
Row 2 (WS) and all WS rows until row 12: purl until last 3 st of the row, Edge;
Row 3 (RS): Edge (over 3 st), k2tog, YO, k2tog, YO, k1, *k1, k2tog, YO, k2tog, YO, k1*, repeat stitches between ** until 5 st are left before the previous turn (i.e. 5 st less than the previous RS row), k2, turn (working your preferable short row technique);
Row 5 (RS): Edge (over 3 st), k1, k2tog, YO, k1, *k1, k2tog, YO, k2tog, YO, k1*, repeat stitches between ** until 5 st are left before the previous turn (i.e. 5 st less than the previous RS row), k2, turn (working your preferable short row technique);

Repeat row 1 to 12 6 more times (at that point there will be a total of 84 rows of Diagonal Lace Stitch Pattern), each RS working 3 stitches less and knitting the last 2 stitches before the turn. Now repeat rows 1 to 6 (a total of 90 rows of Diagonal Lace Stitch Pattern) continuing to work 3 stitches less on each RS row.
On the next RS row knit all stitches, working the Edge stitches on both ends as before.
On the following WS row work as follow: Edge (over 3 st), *k1, p1* util there are 4 stitches left before end of the row, k1, Edge;
Now bind off in i-cord as follows: sl1 wyf, k1, return both stitches on the left needle, *k1, k2tog tbl, return both stitches on the left needle*, repeat stitches between ** until there are 4 stitches left before end of the row (those include the 2 stitches just returned to the left needle), k1, k3tog, pass the first stitch over the last one and fasten the yarn.
Weave in all the ends and block to size.

- Work the Edge over the first 3 and last 3 stitches on any row (whether RS or WS).
- Work a M1wH on all RS rows before working the 3 Edge stitches in the end of the row. This will result in 1 st increase on the left side, creating the triangular shape of the shawl.
- Work the textured stitch pattern repeat over multiple of 3 stitches until last Edge stitches. Whenever the number of stitches between Edges does not multiply by 3, work any remaining stitches in St st (M1wH worked before the Edge stitches on all RS rows is not part of the pattern repeats except in the case below).
- Whenever on the 1st row of the Textured stitch pattern repeat the number of stitches is equal to multiples of 3 + 2 (not counting the M1wH) work the last 2 stitches and M1wH as a pattern repeat as follows: YO, sl1 purlwise with yarn to the back, p1, with your left needle lift the bar between the stitches starting from the front (when on needle the leading leg of the stitch is located in the front) and purl it (this will create a tiny hole in the fabric). On the next row (WS) purl all.
