CHRISTMAS SNOWFLAKES COWL

GENERAL INFORMATION:

This is a one-size cowl using the simple techniques of combining knits and purls and mosaic knitting to create striking colorful festive effect without being too pretentious.

In the beautiful Christmas colors of Stenli yarns Merino Gold yarn this cowl is a wonderful present for all - man and women, boys, and girls. Plus – it is an extremely fast knit too! The cowl is complemented by the Christmas Snowflakes Cowl.

The design will benefit from proper blocking. It features written instructions only.

The pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners.

 


 

 

SIZE:

one size; finished measurements (width/height): 32 cm / 26 cm ; 12.6”/10.2”

 

MATERIALS:

Yarn:

Color A: Stenli yarns Merino Gold, color 701 (dark green) 50 gr ;

Color B: Stenli yarns Merino Gold, color 387 (ordeaux) 50 gr

 

Needles:

Circular or double pointed needles size 6 mm or size necessary to achieve gauge.

 

Other:

1 stitch markers, darning needle, scissors.

GAUGE:

Gauge (in stockinette stitch): 18 stitches x 25 rows for 10 cm x 10 cm

 

 


 

 

ABBREVIATIONS:

st – stitch(es)

YO – yarn over

k – knit

k2tog – knit 2 st together

p – purl

ssk – see Special stitches

sl – slip st purlwise with yarn to the back

 

 

SIMPLE WAVES PATTERN (12 st / 4 rounds per repeat)

Round 1: k3, p1 ,k3, p5;

Round 2: p1, k5, p1, k5;

Round 3: k1, p1, k3, p1, k6;

Round 4: k2, p1, k1, p1, k7;

 

SNOWFLAKE PATTERN B (4 st / 8 rounds per repeat)

Round 1 (color A): k3, (k1, YO, k1) in the next st (this creates 3 stitches out of 1) (6 st);

Round 2 (color B): change to Color B, k3, sl3 (6 st);

Round 3 (color B): k1, k2tog, sl1, ssk, using the last stitch of the current repeat and the first stitch of the next repeat (4 st);

NB: When working the piece, k1 before starting the first pattern repeat of this round. Continue repeating the 4 st of the pattern as given above until last 4 st of the round. Then in the last repeat the ssk will use the last stitch of this round and the first st of the next round. The marker for beginning of the round should be moved after this ssk.

Round 4 (Color A): change to Color A, sl1, k3 (4 st)

Round 5 (color A): with Color A (k1, YO, k1) in the first st (this creates 3 stitches out of 1), k3 (6 st);

Round 6 (color B): change to Color B, sl3, k3 (6 st);

Round 7 (color B): k2tog, using the last stitch of the previous repeat and the first stitch of the current repeat, sl1, ssk, k1 (4 st);

NB: When working the piece, work the k2tog of the first pattern repeat of this round using the first stitch of the round and the last stitch of the previous round. The marker for the beginning of the round should be moved before this stitch. Continue repeating the 4 st of the pattern as given above until end of the round.

Round 8 (color A): change to Color A, k3, sl1 (4 st);

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Using needles size 6 mm cast on 108 stitches with Color A. Join in the round and mark beginning of the round by placing a stitch marker and work rib as follows: *k1, p1*, repeat st between ** until end of the round. Continue until rib measures approx. 3 cm.

Knit the next 4 rounds.

On the next round - Round 5 change to Color B and work as follows: *k1, k1 into the stitch 4 rows below the second stitch on the left needle creating an elongated stitch, sl3 with yarn to the back, pass the elongated stitch over the 3 slipped stitches* repeat stitches between ** until end of the round.

Round 6 (Color B): *k2, sl1 with yarn to the back, k1*, repeat stitches between ** until end of the round.

Round 7 (Color B): knit all stitches

Round 8 (Color B): knit all stitches.

On the next round, continuing with Color B work Simple Waves Pattern x 9 times until end of the round. Continue in pattern until Simple Waves Pattern is completed 2 times vertically. Continue working Round 1 and Round 2 of the pattern on more time.

On the next round start working Snowflake Pattern B x 27 times until end of the round. When Snowflake Pattern B is completed 2 times vertically, knit one round with Color A. Change to Color B and knit one more round.

Continuing with Color B, now work Simple Waves Pattern x 9 times until end of the round. Continue in pattern until Simple Waves Pattern is completed 2 times vertically. Continue working Round 1 and Round 2 of the pattern.

Continuing with Color B, knit 5 rounds. On the next round change to Color A and work as follows: *k1, k1 into the stitch 4 rows below the second stitch on the left needle creating an elongated stitch, sl3 with yarn to the back, pass the elongated stitch over the 3 slipped stitches* repeat stitches between ** until end of the round.

Next round (Color A): *k2, sl1 with yarn to the back, k1*, repeat stitches between ** until end of the round.

Knit one more round with Color A. Now work Rib 1x1 (*k1, p1* repeat until end of the round) for 3 cm in height and bind off loosely in pattern with knit over knit and purl over pearl.


 

Block the piece appropriately.
